Senior Mechanical Engineer (Creo)
Type of Position:
This position will begin as a 6-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 6 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.
Job Location:
Oshkosh, WI. This role will begin as a 100% on-site role (but will transition to a hybrid role over time). Relocation assistance will be available for non-local candidates.
Compensation:
We are generally targeting $50.00/hr to $60.00/hr (depending on experience). There may be some additional flexibility above this pay range for well-qualified candidates. Overtime will be paid at 1.5x over 40 hours (and this role is expected to have fairly regular overtime).
Candidate Requirements:
This role is ONLY open to US Citizens. Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) and any other work authorizations are NOT permitted here as this role requires eligibility to obtain a secret clearance (a secret clearance is only open to US Citizens). To be clear, a clearance isn’t required to start (candidates must be eligible to obtain one eventually). Due to the nature of this role (working for a defense contractor tied to the federal government) – candidates may need to be able to pass a drug screen (which would include cannabis). There are no exceptions to this (eg: a medical card).

Job Description:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major defense contractor and specialty vehicle manufacturer to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This role is responsible for designing functional, reliable, and cost-effective heavy-duty vehicle components. This includes performing engineering analysis, developing new designs or redesigns, and supporting the integration and execution of vehicle and component designs. Help shape the future of defense mobility with a world-class team redefining what military vehicles can do.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and assigned tasks under supervision, following industry standards
- Support senior engineers in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reports
- Manage projects or segments of projects of limited complexity; may handle multiple assignments simultaneously
- Collaborate with other engineering and business support disciplines, both internally and externally with suppliers
- Mentor and guide entry-level engineers, designers, or technicians
- Communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, and resources regarding technical concerns
- Enforce engineering criteria and drawing standards, ensuring processes align with company standards and policies
- Evaluate designs for safety, performance, and reliability
- Prepare and direct the development of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of materials
- Conduct engineering analyses for the selection of parts, components, and materials to meet requirements
- Provide technical support to production as needed
- Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering and communicate resolutions
- Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations
- Create and maintain project documentation for research and historical tracking
- Use analytical and mathematical methods to model system performance and optimize design
- Ensure regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field
- Three (3) or more years of relevant engineering experience
- Experience with PTC Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER), Windchill, and Microsoft Office
- Heavy-vehicle, automotive, or related mechanical system knowledge
- Effective internal and external communication, including technical documentation and presentations
- Ability to gather, interpret, and explain information across peer and interdepartmental groups
- Skilled at analysis, problem-solving, and reasoning in moderately complex situations
- Makes sound decisions and adapts established practices to new challenges
- Capable of instructing, scheduling, and reviewing the work of others; able to act as a “lead worker”.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Former experience at leading vehicle manufacturers is a plus
- C++ and Python experience is desirable. Candidates with this experience will have an advantage.
Work Environment, Other Info:
- 1st (day) shift position.
- There will be occasional overtime in this role, any OT will be paid at 1.5x.
- This role will begin as a 100% on-site role, but over time it will convert to a hybrid position.
- This role involves a blend of physical and mental activity, including frequent computer-based work, communication, and problem-solving in a dynamic environment. While primarily performed during routine shift hours, occasional overtime or deadlines may require flexibility under moderate stress.
