Integration Engineer - US Defense

100% onsite Hudson,NH

Open-ended contract that can go direct

$55-65/hr on a 9/80 work schedule


Candidate Requirements:

This role is working for a major US defense contractor. Candidates must be eligible to obtain a secret security clearance (please note, clearance isn’t required to start). Secret Clearance requires US Citizenship (and thus, that’s a requirement in this role). Permanent Residents (Green Card Holders) are NOT eligible for this role. Candidates on CPT, OPT, H1B or TN visas are also not eligible for this role. This company is NOT open to corp2corp (c2c) or corp2hire (c2h). Offer may be contingent upon passing a background check and a drug screen (drug screen would include Cannabis).


Position Overview

The Systems Integration Engineer is responsible for integrating complex defense and aerospace systems into fully functional, mission-ready solutions. This role bridges system architecture, software, and hardware to ensure seamless interoperability across subsystems. The position requires strong technical execution, structured problem-solving, and the ability to lead integration and test activities in a fast-paced program environment.


Key Responsibilities

System Integration Planning

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and execute integration plans
  • Define system interfaces and integration requirements
  • Establish schedules, milestones, and resource needs for integration activities
  • Drive alignment across engineering disciplines to ensure program readiness

System Architecture & Interface Design

  • Analyze system requirements and align integration solutions with overall architecture
  • Design and document system interfaces, data flows, and integration mechanisms
  • Ensure interoperability between software, hardware, and embedded subsystems

Software & Hardware Integration

  • Integrate software applications and hardware components into complete system builds
  • Develop and implement software interfaces, middleware, and communication protocols
  • Support hardware integration activities including installation, wiring, and configuration
  • Troubleshoot integration issues across mixed hardware/software environments

System Testing & Validation

  • Develop integration test plans and procedures
  • Lead and execute system-level testing activities
  • Identify, isolate, and resolve defects across hardware and software domains
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to ensure compliance with industry and customer standards
  • Serve as Test Lead for program activities when required (driving timelines, coordination, and reporting)

Risk Management

  • Identify technical and programmatic risks related to system integration
  • Develop mitigation strategies addressing schedule, resource, and technical constraints
  • Proactively communicate risks and proposed solutions to stakeholders

Documentation & Reporting

  • Produce integration plans, design specifications, interface documentation, and test reports
  • Maintain configuration control and accurate records of integration activities
  • Provide regular status updates to program leadership

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with systems engineers, software developers, hardware engineers, and program managers
  • Coordinate with external vendors, subcontractors, and customers
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Strong understanding of system integration principles and best practices
  • Experience integrating defense or aerospace systems preferred
  • Proficiency in system architecture design (interfaces, data flows, integration patterns)
  • Experience with software development and integration techniques
  • Solid understanding of embedded hardware components (sensors, actuators, communication interfaces)
  • Experience developing and executing system-level test plans
  • Knowledge of applicable defense/aerospace industry standards and regulations
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-pressure environment


Top Technical Skills

  • Experience serving as a Test Lead on complex programs (time management, coordination, communication)
  • Linux operating systems
  • Advanced debugging skills:
  • Hardware: signal tracing using schematics, interpreting customer documentation
  • Software: Python, Bash, and related scripting tools
