Overview:
A leading firm in power delivery engineering is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to join their dynamic team in Cary, NC. In this hybrid role, you will act as a technical lead on complex substation projects across distribution, sub-transmission, and high-voltage transmission levels (69kV–500kV+). Key Responsibilities:
- Lead physical or protection & control (P&C) substation design for high-voltage utility projects.
- Prepare detailed electrical engineering drawings and deliverables using tools such as CYME and AutoCAD.
- Coordinate project execution including budgets, schedules, and resource planning.
- Interface with utility clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure technical excellence.
- Oversee QA/QC of deliverables and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
- Contribute to renewable energy integration, system automation, and reliability improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (required).
- 5+ years of experience in HV utility substation design (69kV to 500kV+).
- Experience with consulting engineering firms working on utility substation projects.
- Proficiency in industry tools such as CYME, AutoCAD, and electrical design software.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 1–2 years (required).
- Strong knowledge of utility standards, QA/QC processes, and project management.
- Excellent communication and team leadership skills.
Additional Requirements:
- Applicants must have hands-on experience in either substation physical or P&C design at high-voltage levels.
- Experience limited to industrial, LV/MV systems, or manufacturing settings will not be considered.
- Utility-employed candidates must demonstrate consulting-style design experience.
