Controls Engineer – GM Manufacturing
Location: Saginaw, MI ( + plant travel as needed)
Work Arrangement: Flex/Hybrid Available
Type: Contract (Extension possible based on performance & budget)
Pay: $50-55/hr
Overview
We’re seeking Controls Engineers to support advanced automation initiatives within automotive manufacturing at General Motors. In this role, you’ll design, develop, and optimize control systems that power next-generation production lines. You’ll work across a variety of automation projects, partnering with cross-functional teams to launch new programs, integrate cutting-edge technologies, and support high-performance manufacturing operations.
What You’ll Be Doing
• Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI systems for automated manufacturing environments
• Support robotics integration, system testing, debugging, and commissioning
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, IT, and suppliers to resolve technical challenges
• Drive improvements in system performance, safety, and production efficiency
• Support equipment buy-offs and travel to plant sites as needed
• Take ownership of automation systems from concept through launch

Day-to-Day Environment

• Travel to plants and suppliers for equipment validation and support
• Participation in GM contract worker shutdown periods
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in controls or automation engineering
• Hands-on experience with PLC and HMI programming
• Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Preferred Experience
• Automotive or in-plant manufacturing experience
• Robotics integration and industrial automation systems
• Experience supporting system launches or commissioning
