Position Overview
The Capital Planning Manager is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of capital projects—from initial scope development and budgeting through execution and final closeout. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with organizational goals, while maintaining high standards for safety and quality.
This position also provides leadership and oversight to project coordinators and supports cross-functional collaboration across operations, purchasing, IT, and facilities teams.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and success criteria with key stakeholders
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and resource allocations
- Manage projects from concept through completion and closeout
Budgeting & Cost Management
- Prepare accurate cost estimates including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead
- Conduct vendor bid analysis and support contract negotiations
- Manage budgets, track KPIs, and oversee change orders
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and support project coordinators and internal team members
- Delegate tasks, set expectations, and ensure project alignment across teams
Vendor & Stakeholder Coordination
- Manage procurement processes, including vendor selection and contract management
- Collaborate with internal teams (operations, IT, purchasing) to ensure seamless execution
- Coordinate IT infrastructure integration for facility readiness
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements
- Conduct site inspections and proactively address risks or delays
- Support internal quality standards and documentation processes
Facilities & Design Standards
- Standardize interior finishes, furniture, and building specifications across projects
- Review architectural drawings, engineering documents, and technical specifications
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or related field
- 8+ years of experience in capital project management, construction, or facilities
- Experience leading teams or managing project staff
- Strong ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Strong communication skills across all levels of an organization
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Preferred
- Experience with interior building specifications and space planning
- Background in project management, accounting, or finance
- Familiarity with AutoCAD
- Experience with PeopleSoft or similar ERP systems
