Lead Electrical Engineer – Power & Systems
Position Overview
The Lead Electrical Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for leading product development from concept through production release. This position supports the design and development of power generation systems, mobile platforms, and electrical distribution solutions within a manufacturing environment.
The role requires technical leadership across complex engineering programs, including planning, execution, and coordination of cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate brings strong electrical engineering expertise, product development experience, and the ability to drive projects to completion while meeting performance, cost, and schedule targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end product development from concept through production release
- Oversee technical execution of projects, including planning, scheduling, and team coordination
- Develop electrical system layouts, schematics, and wiring diagrams based on requirements
- Ensure designs meet performance, cost, manufacturability, and quality targets
- Participate in and lead technical design reviews
- Provide technical guidance to engineers, designers, and technicians
- Support proposal development, technical documentation, and cost estimation
- Manage project inputs including budget, schedule, and resource planning
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and engineering best practices
- Build, test, and validate prototypes and system integrations
- Collaborate with internal teams, customers, and vendors to support project success
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, and quality processes
- Support additional engineering projects and responsibilities as assigned
- Travel as required to support project needs
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in electrical engineering or product development
- Experience leading product development programs from concept to production
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution, and control systems
- Experience creating and reviewing schematics and wiring diagrams
- Proficiency with SolidWorks Electrical, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and lead technical efforts with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree, Professional Engineer (PE) license, or MBA
- Experience in defense, military, or highly regulated industries
- Familiarity with industry standards such as:
- ASTM E1851-15
- IEEE 299
- MIL-STD-285
- MIL-STD-188/125
- MIL-STD-461 / 464
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems
Work Environment
- Combination of office, lab, and manufacturing environments
- Exposure to production areas with noise, dust, temperature changes, and industrial equipment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work overhead for extended periods
- Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
