Production Planner – Indirect Materials

$40-45/hr and OT eligible

Long-term contract


Position Summary

The Production Planner is responsible for managing indirect materials and inventory operations within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role ensures the timely availability of materials required to support production, maintenance, and engineering teams.

The position requires strong coordination across purchasing, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to maintain accurate inventory levels, resolve supply issues, and support overall operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory & Materials Management

  • Manage indirect material inventory, including spare parts, consumables, and production support items
  • Perform daily inventory adjustments and ensure system accuracy
  • Monitor stock levels and adjust reorder points based on usage trends and production needs
  • Conduct audits and resolve discrepancies between systems

Procurement & Purchasing Support

  • Generate purchase requisitions (PRs) and coordinate with purchasing teams to create purchase orders (POs)
  • Manage spot buys, special orders, and service-related procurement needs
  • Track open orders and work with suppliers to resolve delays or discrepancies
  • Support bulk and blanket purchase order processes

Issue Resolution & Coordination

  • Manage daily inventory issues including out-of-stock and low inventory situations
  • Resolve receiving and inventory discrepancies (e.g., quantity issues, missing documentation, incorrect part numbers)
  • Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and suppliers to resolve material-related issues
  • Manage repair processes for inventory items, including tracking and vendor coordination

Systems & Reporting

  • Generate daily usage and inventory reports using Excel and internal systems
  • Maintain and update material records, including new item setup, changes, and deletions
  • Manage shared communication channels to resolve purchasing and inventory inquiries
  • Support system data accuracy across inventory and supply chain platforms

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor inventory trends and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in annual inventory assessments and control processes
  • Support training efforts related to inventory systems and processes

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of experience in production planning, inventory management, or supply chain operations
  • Minimum 2+ years of SAP experience (required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook
  • Experience managing inventory in a warehouse or manufacturing environment
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Experience with inventory control and indirect material management
  • Familiarity with accounting principles or financial tracking
  • Experience working with large-scale manufacturing operations

Work Environment

  • Fully onsite in a manufacturing facility
  • Fast-paced environment with frequent interaction across teams and suppliers
  • High level of coordination with purchasing, engineering, and maintenance teams
