Job Description:

HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major automotive manufacturer to hire an Automotive Dealership Auditor. This role focuses on auditing dealership service and warranty repair documentation to ensure compliance with company policies. The Auditor will split their time between onsite dealership visits and remote electronic audits, reviewing claims, validating whether repairs are reasonable and payable, and documenting non-compliance when applicable. The position requires dealership systems knowledge, strong organizational skills, and a solid understanding of vehicle mechanical systems. While this is not a technician role, familiarity with automotive service operations and warranty processes is essential.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct onsite dealership audits (typically up to one week per visit), reviewing service repair documentation and warranty claims.
  • Make compliance judgments on whether submitted warranty repairs are valid and payable; document reasons for any disallowed claims.
  • Perform electronic audits remotely from home office when not traveling.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports and communicate findings to dealership staff and company leadership.
  • Review ~80 job cards per visit, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Organize and manage audit documentation to meet deadlines and maintain accurate records.
  • Work with dealer management systems (Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, DealerTrack, etc.) to research claims and verify data.

Skills, Education, Experience Required:

  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in automotive dealership, service, or warranty operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required with equivalent experience. High School Diploma or GED is required at a minimum.
  • Strong knowledge of dealership warranty processes, fixed operations, or service department workflows.
  • General understanding of vehicle mechanical systems (does not need to be a licensed technician, but must understand repair/service logic).
  • Experience with dealer management systems (Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, DealerTrack, etc.) is critical.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple audits and deadlines independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present audit findings professionally, including in difficult conversations.

Skills, Education, Experience Preferred:

  • ASE certification(s) are desirable.
  • Completion of dealership or mechanical training programs (UTI or similar).
  • Direct experience in dealership warranty operations is the strongest background for success.
  • Prior experience in auditing, compliance, or quality control roles.

Work Environment / Other Info:

  • Standard schedule: 1st shift, Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM is typical.
  • This is considered to be a remote role (home office) with significant travel ~25 to 30 weeks per year. We consider this role to be approx. 50% travel. Travel costs are reimbursed (lodging, mileage/rental, per diem for food, etc). Most of the travel will be to dealerships in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan.
  • We HIGHLY prefer candidates be located in Michigan, but we will consider those who are in nearby states as well.
  • Training provided (primarily remote, ~1 month depending on candidate’s background)
  • Occasional overtime is possible – any OT will be paid at 1.5x.
  • Travel flexibility – auditors typically set their own schedules within general bounds.
  • EOE (including Disability/Veterans).
