Defense Model-Based Systems Engineer (must be eligible to obtain US Security Clearance)
Location: 100% onsite in Warren, MI
Type: Long-term contract supporting military vehicle programs
Compensation: $55–60/hr (paid weekly)

Job Summary
The Defense Systems Senior Engineer will apply systems engineering principles to the development of project plans, requirements, design, and validation of multidisciplinary system solutions. This role is responsible for driving the design of complex defense systems in collaboration with internal engineering teams, external suppliers, and customers. The engineer will also be mentored and supported by team members to ensure success in project execution and customer interactions.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop system and sub-system requirements, including decomposition and traceability to component level.
- Define vehicle and subsystem-level integration strategies.
- Create and track requirements, validation plans, and test data to confirm design alignment with customer objectives.
- Utilize simulation tools (Simulink, LabView) to model complex systems, guiding requirements and design activities.
- Coordinate input from internal engineering teams, external suppliers, and customers.
- Design and develop hardware, systems, and validation testing setups.
- Integrate components into existing architectures.
- Evaluate systems for new hardware upgrades and integration of new and legacy technologies.
Education & Experience
Required:
- Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- 5+ years of systems engineering experience, including design and optimization of complex systems.
- Hands-on experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Strong background in developing and writing requirements definitions.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
- Experience designing, configuring, and testing data networks.
- Background in engineering and integration of ground vehicle electronic systems and subsystems.
- Familiarity with the "V-Model" development process.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Required:
- Proficiency with SysML and Simulink diagram/model creation and management.
- Knowledge of Ethernet, CANBUS, PCIe, video distribution networks, and in-vehicle networks.
- Ability to collaborate with software, hardware, and network development/integration teams.
- Strong detail orientation with the ability to rapidly assimilate new concepts, technologies, and business models.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of Vetronics systems and applications.
- Familiarity with defense system architecture frameworks (MOSA, GCIA, FACE).
- Understanding of network topology, communication standards, and protocols.
- Ability to perform business process creation, refinement, and gap analyses.
- Effective communication skills with a customer-focused mindset.
- Current or ability to obtain Secret DoD Security Clearance.
