Director of Digital Technology

Location: Spartanburg, SC (Full-time Onsite)

Employment Type: Direct Hire (USC only)

Salary Range: $150,000 – $190,000 base + 20% potential bonus

Benefits: Competitive (PTO, Healthcare, etc)

Travel: Less than 10% (to Oshkosh, WI)


Position Summary

The Director of Digital Technology leads organizational direction, mission, vision, and DT competencies within the Delivery business unit. This senior leader is responsible for human capital management, budgets, departmental strategy, process improvement, innovation, and ensuring customer obsession throughout IT operations. This role oversees mission-critical systems from product design through aftermarket support, drives Industry 4.0 initiatives, and partners with corporate infrastructure, cybersecurity, applications, and plant operations teams to deploy advanced digital tools such as MES/SCADA, IoT, AI/ML, robotics, and advanced analytics to enhance manufacturing efficiency and data-driven decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the DT function for the Delivery Vehicle business unit, ensuring uptime, functionality, and performance of critical systems and data.
  • Direct multiple IT teams (20+ direct and indirect reports) through effective performance management, annual reviews, career coaching, and personal development planning.
  • Champion DT C.A.R.E. competencies (Customer Obsession, Agility, Results, Entrepreneurial) while fostering a people-first culture.
  • Collaborate with corporate and defense leaders to develop and execute a two-year digital strategy roadmap with measurable milestones and aligned enterprise outcomes.
  • Guide senior staff in technical decision-making, operational forecasting, and financial modeling to ensure process integrity and agility across mission-critical platforms.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure compliance with IT/business policies, audit standards, and cybersecurity protocols, aligning with defense-grade requirements.
  • Oversee technology and infrastructure operations to meet uptime and reliability goals consistent with automotive manufacturing standards (e.g., 99.999% uptime).
  • Drive the integration of smart factory capabilities, including IoT, MES platforms, and edge computing, positioning Spartanburg as a flagship site for digital manufacturing.
  • Lead IT financial management practices, including budgeting, ROI analysis, and value realization for innovation and agility.

Business Alignment

  • Deepen understanding of manufacturing and delivery operations, leveraging digital manufacturing, advanced analytics, e-commerce, and ERP to strengthen strategic planning.
  • Partner with leaders to assess organizational goals, system dependencies, and digital architecture needs for next-generation vehicle production.
  • Continuously analyze processes using KPIs, technology performance, and vendor partnerships to identify improvement opportunities that enhance both customer and operator experience.

Culture & Change Leadership

  • Serve as the link between executive leadership and technical teams to communicate priorities, change impacts, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, agility, and digital fluency across manufacturing and enterprise IT programs.
  • Act as a change leader supporting continuous improvement and strategic transformation.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of related experience.
  • 5+ years of management experience.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing direct and indirect teams.
  • Strong business acumen with a background in manufacturing IT from design to aftermarket.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including experience presenting to C-suite executives.
  • Skills in ITIL, COBIT, budgeting, business acumen, data analytics, agile, scrum, risk management, workforce planning, negotiation, and coaching.


Preferred Qualifications

  • ERP/MES experience (implementation and maintenance of SCADA and JD Edwards).
  • Experience leading both in-person and remote teams.
  • Master’s degree.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement certifications.
