Senior Engineer

Job Summary

The Senior Engineer designs functional, reliable, and cost-effective components for heavy-duty vehicles. This role involves engineering analysis, design or redesign, and integrating components into both new and existing vehicles. The Senior Engineer also provides support for the execution and integration of vehicle and component designs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct engineering calculations, investigations, and assigned tasks following company and industry standards.
  • Support senior engineers with plans, designs, computations, and reporting as needed.
  • Take responsibility for a specific project or part of a project of limited complexity; may manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Collaborate with other internal engineering or business support disciplines and external suppliers.
  • Mentor or guide entry-level engineers, designers, or technicians on projects.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers, internal/external customers, and external resources regarding technical matters.
  • Enforce proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards within company policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Prepare and direct the creation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Analyze engineering options to support part/component/material selection to meet requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance for production support and resolve reported engineering issues.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
  • Maintain project documentation, including analysis and research records.
  • Utilize analytical and mathematical methods to model and optimize system performance.
  • Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned.
  • Maintain regular attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Accredited bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Three (3) or more years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accredited bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical knowledge relating to automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems.
  • Experience using a high-level CAD system.

  • Problem Solving and Judgment: Handle moderately difficult and diversified work, applying established practices to new situations.
  • Supervisory/Lead Responsibilities: Provide general instruction, scheduling, and review of others’ work; act as a lead worker on projects.

Working Conditions

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Standing, walking/running, sitting, reaching, hearing, talking, visual tasks, typing
  • Occasional: Driving, fine/manual dexterity, upper extremity repetitive motion
  • Seldom: Lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs., pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs.

Non-Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Analysis/reasoning, communication/interpretation, math/mental computation, reading, sustained mental activity, writing

Environmental Demands:

  • Frequent: Working alone, task changes, tedious/exacting tasks
  • Occasional: High volume public contact

Work Schedule:

  • Routine shift hours; infrequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation may be required.

Demands/Deadlines:

  • High and variable workload with periodic or intermittent stress. May include regular contact with distressed individuals and/or pressure from sources beyond immediate supervision.
