Type of Position:

This position will begin as a 12-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the contract is initially set for 12 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions beyond the initial term are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 4 months, depending on individual performance and business needs. Although direct hire is not guaranteed, it is a common outcome for high-performing team members, and most contractors in this role do transition to permanent positions over time.

Job Description:

HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major automotive manufacturer to hire a Production Supervisor for our facility in Wyoming, MI. This facility produces critical engine and axle components for our full-size truck programs. The Production Supervisor will be responsible for supervising 8–20 UAW hourly employees, ensuring production targets are met, leading quality improvement initiatives, and collaborating cross-functionally to address throughput and cost challenges. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of production and operating workers
  • Review operations and collaborate with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing issues
  • Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and operational efficiency
  • Develop and maintain production tracking and quality control systems
  • Prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records
  • Coordinate with engineering and quality teams on equipment downtime, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to sustain and advance throughput and cost reduction goals
  • Work with union team members to build positive relationships, address concerns, and maintain a collaborative environment
  • Demonstrate managerial courage in addressing performance and behavioral issues
  • Provide shift handoffs and summaries for incoming leadership


Skills, Education, Experience Required:

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in business or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing leadership experience (automotive preferred).
  • Strong time management skills with proven ability to prioritize and delegate effectively
  • Ability to lead, build relationships, and manage conflict resolution in a unionized environment
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and manufacturing techniques
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Skills, Education, Experience Preferred:

  • 10+ years of manufacturing leadership experience (automotive preferred).
  • Military leadership experience (candidates with this background have historically been successful)
  • Heat treat background or knowledge (not required but beneficial)
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement processes and quality tools


Work Environment / Other Info:

  • Must be flexible to work either 2nd shift (2:00 PM – 10:00 PM) or 3rd shift (10:00 PM – 6:30 AM). Shifts do not rotate weekly, but coverage for other shifts may be required for call-offs or emergencies
  • Typical schedule: Monday to Friday; currently working 2 weekends on, 1 weekend off
  • This role involves regular overtime (8 hours per week on average). All hours worked beyond 40 in a week will be compensated at 1.5x the regular hourly rate. Additionally, any hours worked on a Sunday after reaching 40 total hours for the week will be paid at double time (2.0x).
  • Offer may be contingent upon a background check, fit for work physical and a drug screen (drug screen would NOT include cannabis).
