Pay: $50–$55/hr
Schedule: 9/80 (Every other Friday off!)

We’re looking for a mid-level Software Safety Engineer to join an advanced combat vehicle development program with a global leader in defense technology. In this highly collaborative role, you’ll serve as a key liaison between systems, software, and test teams, ensuring that safety-critical software components meet the most stringent military standards.
This position is 100% onsite in Sterling Heights, MI and offers a long-term contract with the strong potential to convert to a direct-hire role. You'll also be supported by an agency to hold your U.S. security clearance (required for the role).

What You’ll Do
- Analyze and map system/software requirements to Safety Criticality Indices (per MIL-STD-882).
- Participate in and support system hazard analyses.
- Design and review software and architectures for safety compliance.
- Recommend and validate safety criteria in software design and operations.
- Review test plans and procedures to ensure alignment with safety requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate software safety risks.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline (CS, CE, EE, ME, AE, or similar). Master’s a plus.
- 3+ years of experience developing in C, C++, or embedded systems.
- 7+ years of experience designing safety-critical software using MIL-STD-882E, ISO 26262, or similar.
- Familiarity with model-based development, and tools like DOORS or Cameo.
- Understanding of hardware systems (electrical & mechanical) interfacing with software.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 5% (domestic, with some international).
Nice to Have
- Experience with Agile development environments.
- Prior defense industry experience.
- Embedded software test or integration background.
- Ability to contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Ability to meet ASR (Anthropometric Size Requirement) for military vehicle workspaces.
Security Clearance Requirement
This role requires eligibility to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance.
This role is open ONLY to US Citizens as all candidates must be eligible for secret security clearance (clearance requires US Citizenship). Please note, clearance isn’t required to start (only eligibility).
