Test Engineer – Defense & Aerospace

Location: Torrance, CA

Schedule: Onsite | 9/80 Schedule (8am start time)

Pay Rate: $40–$50/hr with optional benefits and PTO

Contract: 12 Months with potential for extension or direct hire



Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Test Engineer to join our team in Torrance, CA, supporting advanced programs in the Defense and Aerospace industry. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, executing, and documenting test plans and procedures that ensure the performance, reliability, and compliance of critical systems and components. Your contributions will directly impact the safety, effectiveness, and innovation of cutting-edge technology.


Key Responsibilities


Test Planning & Development

  • Interpret schematics and blueprints to define test requirements and objectives.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans, procedures, and strategies to validate functionality, performance, and compliance with MIL-STDs and customer specifications.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation, including Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs).


Test Execution & Analysis

  • Set up, configure, and operate test environments, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Perform functional, integration, verification, stress, and qualification testing.
  • Record, analyze, and report test results, identifying anomalies and collaborating with engineering teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.


Documentation & Reporting

  • Deliver clear, detailed test reports that summarize objectives, methodologies, findings, and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate records of test activities for future reference and compliance.
  • Present test results and status updates to internal teams, management, and customers.


Continuous Improvement & Automation

  • Leverage programming skills (C, C++, Python, or similar) to develop test automation frameworks and improve testing efficiency.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine testing methodologies, tools, and processes to enhance effectiveness.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and standards relevant to defense and aerospace testing.


Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure testing activities adhere to industry standards (MIL-STDs, DO-178C, DO-254, AS9100) and quality assurance requirements.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to support audits, compliance reviews, and safety initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Proven experience reading and interpreting schematics/blueprints.
  • Strong background in writing technical documentation and procedures (ATPs).
  • Hands-on experience with verification and qualification testing.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STDs and other industry standards for compliance testing.
  • Proficiency in programming (C, C++, Python) and experience with test automation.
  • Skilled in using defense/aerospace test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, environmental chambers).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Prior defense/aerospace industry experience highly desirable.
